I've been away from fandom from a while. The first time I ever needed to discuss a show online, it was 1990 and the answer was Usenet (alt.tv.twin-peaks). The next time, it was 1997 and the answer was ONElist (a mailing-list service that merged with Egroups, which got bought by Yahoo, whee the 1990s).

Are mailing lists dead?

Where do I go for a public, wide-ranging discussion about anything and everything to do with BBC Sherlock?

Can't seem to get my friends interested enough in this and I'm dying, out here.

I don't know about mailing lists, but the biggest LJ community is [community profile] sherlockbbc. because the comm has been going for over a year now, you might get more of a response if you post with a specific question than a general one. there may be other discussion communities out there that I don't know about - and that people on sherlockbbc might.

Agreed. [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc seems to have remained the most active, as the comms go.
