I feel like I should set that in 48-point type.  Wordstrings.  Came.  Back!

She wrote a preview fragment here.  It's at least as exquisitely painful as any other point in Paradox Verse, all the more so for being unresolved.  My heart goes out to her evident distress; whatever her difficulties, I hope she feels better.

Now I am listening to my Paradox music (Beck's Sea Change, natch).  Good lord, I must have first read Paradox almost a year ago; my Sherlockiversary is coming up in just under a month!

Will wonders never cease! I finally found an S/J fic with a definitely sociopathic Sherlock that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's creepy in a good way.

Stolen Moments. Not terribly surprisingly, it's by [livejournal.com profile] velvet_mace, the same author whose Collared WIP is an amazing helping of fucked-up angst, with forced-to-be-cruel!Sherlock and probably-going-to-be-broken!John, both at the mercy of utter-bastard!Mycroft. (And if you like that one, while it's currently up to Chapter 3 on [livejournal.com profile] velvet_mace's LJ, there's a lot more in first draft form on the kink meme; follow the link labeled "Prompt" in the intro to Chapter 1.)

But back to Stolen Moments. It's in Sherlock's POV, and I don't think I'm spoiling anything if I say it involves hypnosis!rape. I am tempted to call it a 5 on the Sociopathy Scale, but I think that's due to my bias toward awarding 6's only to fics I don't like. Certainly this Sherlock has zero conscience, feeling regrets only for the possibility that he's basically broken his toy. And he does need to construct external constraints in order to change his behavior; he's not able to do so via willpower alone. So I'll go ahead and give it a 6.

Enjoy!

The Heart in the Whole, by [livejournal.com profile] verityburns. Sooo hot. And Reichenbach averted, with love and trust and BAMFiness. I am all mushy over this one.

His Lap Full, by [livejournal.com profile] lucybun. Fun little fic, and hot. Comes with picture by [livejournal.com profile] livia_carica. S/J, Sherlock POV, sociopathy index 1 (not in evidence; 0 would be "Star Trek AU, Sherlock is a Betazoid empath", and wouldn't that be funny?)

Enjoy.

Two (or three) finds this time.

First, an enjoyable little AU based on Ella Enchanted (which you needn't have read). Entirely John-centric. Man's Original Virtue, by an anonymous author.

Next, an amazing pair of fics, Sherlock viewpoint, by [livejournal.com profile] sprl1199: Cu Sylvatica, with Sherlock being tempted to throw in with Moriarty, and Knot Theory, with more, deliciously stomach-churning Moriarty as Sherlock and the reader try to figure out Moriarty's angle on turning himself in. Sociopathy index: Sherlock considers himself one, John disagrees; I put it about a 4 out of 6 on my newly-minted sociopathy scale (Paradox would be a 5, while a couple of fics I don't particularly want to hunt down again with straight-out psychopathy would rate a 6).

Fic Find

This is a short piece I found days ago and kept in tabs for a while. It stood the test of time so I'll add it to the list. Gen, g-rated: Seeds, by [livejournal.com profile] thesardine.

No recent fic finds. I may go back to looking for good fic rec lists instead of just following [livejournal.com profile] holmesian_news.
airynothing: (find)
Indecorous, by [livejournal.com profile] basingstoke, is mad, silly, hilarious, smutty and above all cheerful. OFC, but she's fun. Much better use of an OFC than in some fic I've read.

I needed some cheerful after reading [livejournal.com profile] thisprettywren's entire gorgeous, harrowing back catalog full of surgical torture, psychological torture, torture torture, and serious dangerous kink. Reading it all in two days was a bit much even for me.

This isn't a mindblowing sex fic... ok, only in parts... it's more of a very well-written novella. Guessing on the actual length/word count, but it kind of feels like the novella entries for the Hugo that were available online before Worldcon, only with less aliens and time travel.

The Whore of Babylon Was a Perfectly Nice Girl, by out_there. Under what circumstances has completely in-character Sherlock slept with half of London? Find out!

(There was another fic, Make Whole What Has Been Smashed by [livejournal.com profile] gigantic that was sort of time travel, or actually Merlin-style living-backwards, which was charming but not the Fic Find of the night.)

Every other evening or so I go trawling for Sherlock fic. I keep reading until I hit the jackpot. (The alternate evenings I am still stuck on whatever I just found...)

Tonight: breathlessly good. I've been avoiding anything where they're writing the characters into standard kinkplay with all the trappings, because dull. Kink should arise effortlessly from the characters' pretty little twisted minds ([livejournal.com profile] wordstrings! Paradox series!), not be all heavy-handed and S&M club.

This is different, it's perfect. Transport, by [livejournal.com profile] thisprettywren. I like the pun in the title. I just read it three times without stopping, and I'm resisting going back right now. Looks like I'm going to have to check her other works too...

Finds from two nights ago: a trio of stories (two related, one different) by [livejournal.com profile] the_arc5: Here, our minutes grow hours and Until the second hand stops, a pair of fics with adrenalinejunkie!S&J, and a very different, more subdued take on broken!Sherlock in All that I have. John in this one is my 2nd favorite version, altered-boundaries!John, but not as intensely so as in Paradox. (I was calling this version of John no-boundaries!John, but the boundaries are there, just... not anywhere near where you'd expect them to be.)

Previous find: a cache of Study in Emerald crossover. Basically, BBC Sherlock and John in versions of Neil Gaiman's take on Victorian Holmes and Watson in Lovecraft's universe. The Queen's Guard by [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan, Brightly Burning, Never Look Back by [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot, Memories and Possibilities (in increasing order of goodness).

Previous find: Apotheosis, by mad_maudlin. My favorite BAMF!John story. Actually, anything where they use "assassin" and "John" in the same sentence is good.

Previous find: recollection is getting a bit blurry, but there was definitely some Two Two One Bravo Baker by abundantlyqueer in there (WIP).

First finds: [livejournal.com profile] irisbleufic's stuff, and the aforementioned Paradox series, the latter of which I found by putting "dark" in my google string, and which is the hands-down best sociopathic!Sherlock (and altered-boundaries!John) ever.

This took a lot longer than I expected. Must have something to do with all the re-reading...
